Real-time measurement of a flow field

Maximize the output of your wind tunnel campaign with real-time measurement of flow by immediately seeing, analyzing and understanding the effects of your aerodynamic optimization.

Measure flow around previously unmeasurable areas

Simply measure with the probe in your hands and skip all the time typically needed to setup conventional measurement systems. Easily investigate areas that are difficult to reach or close to the model surface. At all times, the probe’s position is precisely tracked with a camera system and the ProCap software takes care of reconstructing the 3D flow field. The powerful GPU rendered real-time visualization lets you analyze the measurement at the time of the measurement. If an automated traverse is used as might be required due to high speeds or safety restrictions, the real-time visualization and optical position tracking is a great help in supervising the process and analyzing the flow data.

Scan and Paint System

The seamless interaction of all components allows to use the probe like a paint brush, painting the airflow on the computer screen. This human-centered scanning approach is stunningly efficient, as most of the time is spent in areas of interest which adds data points precisely where required to reconstruct steep gradients or small vortices.

Efficient digital data acquisition

The measured 3D data is accessible in real-time, typically on a large screen or projected to a wall with good visibility during testing. Data is also available offline, using either the ProCap software or standard CFD visualization and analysis tools, for further analysis.

At the core of the real-time STV system is the intelligent ProCap software which manages:

  • Data acquisition and real-time processing of probe data and tracking position
  • Real-time GPU processing, analysis and visualization the flow field
  • Data processing including spatial interpolation, correction for probe movement, data storage and import/export
  • Import and display of model geometry
